Christmas Arrives

Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s a season. And we’ve been busy. I’ve never understood the deriding of common Christmas traditions as being “too commercial” or inappropriate for one reason or another. After all, what better tradition in the season of remembering our Savior’s birth, than to gather with family and friends? And how blessed we must be to have so many families to gather around! First we were welcomed into the Smiths’ fresh new … Continue reading

Trigger Flash

Christmas round one is in the can. Jenny and I made our way over to her mother’s house with the twins for some dinner and some nice family time. The twins had a blast opening their first Christmas presents ever. Well, they had some help getting them unwrapped, but they did a lot of smiling on their own! When I unpacked the camera, expecting to take some quick shots with on camera ETTL + bounce … Continue reading

Pew — What’s that smell!?

Jennifer, the kids and I just returned from Roseville High School — in Roseville, CA — where we viewed their Amorphophallus titanum or “Corpse Flower,” Tiger the Titan. It started blooming earlier today for the first time since being started from seed 10 years ago. The teacher who runs the greenhouse sent an advisory email to the various staff members throughout the district, of which Jenn belongs (she teaches at Granite Bay HS.) As these … Continue reading

Elizabeth and Emory make surprise entry into the world!

Early Monday morning Jennifer and I headed to the hospital for a routine checkup. The babies passed with flying colors, but the doctors worried about Jenn. Since the babies were so far along, and due for a scheduled cesarean birth on Friday, Jennifer was beginning to warrant more of their attention and concern. We were shuttled over to a triage room while they waited for things to improve. Soon we were asked the dreaded question, … Continue reading

Happy Memorial Day!

Today is a day to remember all those who gave their lives for our freedom, as well as those who honorably served, returned home and lived out their lives. They all gave something for us. Both of my grandfathers served in the Pacific in the 40′s as did Jennifer’s grandfather. One of my grandfathers came home in a full body cast, the other came home temporarily blind with a metal plate in his head. My … Continue reading

Nose to nose

Elizabeth and Emory were posing for the camera today. We went in for another ultrasound at 35 weeks. Jenn is getting really big, but the extra time is helping the babies get nice and healthy. Elizabeth (Baby A) weighs in at 5lbs 2oz, and Emory (Baby B) is at 4lbs 14oz. Only a few hundred grams difference if you’re European! Here is a shot of them nose to nose: After a quick break for lunch … Continue reading

31-Week Ultrasound

Having just passed the 31-week mark, I went in for another ultrasound to measure the babies and check-up on their progress. Both my mother and mother-in-law went with me. They were both excited to see their future grand-babies! Elizabeth weighed 3lb 8oz and Emory weighed 3lb 4oz. The doctor said that the difference in their weight is not a problem. That, sometimes, twins just get stuck in weird positions that make it easier or harder … Continue reading

Spring Break

My spring break did not go exactly as I had planned.  I had planned to stay at home and take care of Romeo as he recovered from surgery.  I planned to clean my house and organize the nursery.  However, I ended up being in the hospital Monday through Wednesday and then, when I returned, I was sent home on bed rest. Fortunately, I have some of the best family and friends in the world!  Greg … Continue reading

Wings of Hope

Jennifer and I completed a special project this weekend for her mother, Carol. ChaplainCarolSchroder.com is now up and running and features her book, Wings of Hope. The site is an electronic platform for Carol to connect and share with others who have had their lives touched by terminal illness.
